“With freedom, books, flowers and the moon, who could not be happy?” – Oscar Wilde
I love flowers. I know it’s a cliche but I really do – they just make me really happy. So you can imagine how excited I was to finally explore the Columbia Road Flower Market in East London – even on a cold and rainy day.
Just a short stroll from Old Street, the market is open on Sundays and is best visited either first thing in the morning (to avoid the crowds) or later in the afternoon (to snag a floral bargain or two!).
Upon arrival, you’re greeted by beautiful blooms as far as the eye can see, with their amazing scents wafting through the street as you stroll past each of the stalls. I won’t lie, it took all my self control not to buy every bouquet in sight. Thankfully, sanity prevailed.
Once you’ve bought your weight in flowers, a quick visit to Lily Vanilli‘s ‘Flour Market’ is a must. Here, you can indulge in beautiful edible blooms which will ensure you also leave with even the sweetest sweet tooth suitably nourished.
Time Out considers it one of London’s best markets and I tend to agree – there’s quite honestly few prettier ways to spend a Sunday in London.
